At Austin Premier Mattress, our desire is to revolutionize your life through the quality of your sleep.  To that end, we don't just sell mattresses — we determine exactly what's inside them.

That might sound like a small distinction, but it's the whole reason this store exists. Years of selling other people's brands taught us something the industry doesn't advertise: 

• Most mattresses are built to hit a price point, not to last. 

• Cheap foams that break down in three years. 

• Coil systems that sag at the edges before the warranty's even up. 

• Materials chosen because they're cheap to source, not because they're good to sleep on. 

We got tired of selling that. So we started building something different.

Our Own Line, Built Our Way

We partnered with Sherwood Bedding to design and build our own line of products — mattresses made to our specs, not pulled off someone else's factory floor. We wanted great quality, obviously. But we also wanted the freedom that comes with building your own line, including the fun part: getting to actually name the mattresses. How else are you gonna get a mattress called the Van Zandt, Zilker and Barton Springs? Names that mean something around here, on beds built for the way Austin actually sleeps — hot summers, big families, and people who are on their feet all day and need real recovery at night.

The crew at Sherwood has been building beds for three generations. That kind of institutional knowledge shows up in the details most shoppers never think to ask about.  Heck, it even surprised us and we have been doing this awhile . . but their edge on production and quality are amazing.  You do not do this for that many generations without a solid body of knowledge.

• Open-coil support systems engineered for stronger edge-to-edge performance, so the bed doesn't cave in the moment you sit down to put your boots on. 

• High-density comfort foams instead of the cheap stuff that flattens out and stops supporting you within a couple years.

None of it's flashy. All of it matters — and it's the kind of thing you only get by actually sitting down with a manufacturer and building something together, instead of ordering off a catalog like everyone else.

Aireloom: Old-World Craft, Still Done the Hard Way

If Sherwood is where we bring our own vision to life, Aireloom is where we hand things over to people who've been perfecting a craft since 1940. Aireloom hand-builds each mattress — natural latex, individually wrapped coils, and upholstery techniques that have barely changed in decades, because they never needed to. This isn't a factory chasing speed. It's a factory chasing precision, and the two rarely move at the same pace.

We didn't just take a sales rep's word for that. A friend of ours, Bobby, sells mattress construction machinery for a living — he's walked through more factories, on more continents, than most people in this industry ever will. When we asked him, off the record, what he actually thought of Aireloom's operation, here's what he said: "It's an exceptionally well-organized and run mattress factory. They use really good equipment. They pay a lot of attention to quality, and the factory is hospital-level hygiene."

That's not a marketing line. That's a guy whose job is judging factories, telling us the truth because we asked him to. When someone with that kind of vantage point — someone who's seen the good, the bad, and the cut corners in factories all over the world — says a place runs clean and tight, that's worth more to us than any brochure Aireloom could hand us.

Tempur-Pedic: A Different Kind of Engineering

And then there's Tempur-Pedic, which solves the comfort problem from a completely different angle. Instead of coils and latex, Tempur-Pedic starts with a pressure-relieving material engineered at the molecular level — originally developed for a very different kind of pressure problem, then adapted for sleep. It responds to your body's shape, your weight distribution, and even your temperature in real time, softening exactly where you need relief and holding firm everywhere else. No two people press into a Tempur-Pedic mattress the same way, because no two bodies are the same. That's the whole point, and it's why sleepers who've fought other mattresses for years finally find something that actually works with them instead of against them.

Why It's Worth the Extra Step

None of this is the easy way to sell mattresses. It would be simpler to stock whatever's cheapest to import, mark it up, and move volume. It's slower and more expensive to build — or partner to build — mattresses this carefully. Hand-upholstering takes longer than machine-stapling. Real latex costs more than synthetic foam. High-density materials cost more than the low-density stuff that fills most showrooms in this city. We could take the easy route. We just don't think our customers deserve the easy route.

But that's the difference between a mattress that holds up and one that doesn't. Between a bed you're still happy with in year eight, and one you're already regretting in year three. We built this business in Austin, raised in the Hill Country, because we believe good sleep isn't a luxury — it's the thing everything else in your life depends on. (we say, without great sleep we are all just giant 2 year olds). That belief only means something if the mattresses backing it up are actually built right.
